Rachel Weisz: the gorgeous face of Bulgari Serpenti

I have had a thing about the beautiful Rachel Weisz since her career breakthrough appearance in The Mummy back in 1999.

Now as the face of Bulgari’s current advertising campaign she gets to smoulder in some of the most amazing jewellery imaginable.

Here is Weisz modelling the Bulgari Serpenti in an ad campaign set to run all the way through into 2013.

You can also watch the behind the scenes video...

Alas the gorgeous London-born Rachel Weisz is now married to James Bond, well to Daniel Craig, and made quite an appearance at the recent Skyfall premier, where she met the royals while wearing Chanel couture.

Florence Welch wears Bulgari Serpenti for Spectrum

Watchmaker Bulgari has a history of snake watches thanks to the Serpenti range dating back to the 1940s. But in its latest appearance the serpent coils seductively around the wrist of Florence Welch, lead singer of Florence and the Machine (right).

Keep an eye on the breathtaking video of the Calvin Harris remix for Florence’s acclaimed Spectrum (Say My Name) and you will see this gorgeous gold timepiece at various points.

Florence Welch cites her own influences as ranging from Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac fame to the more robust if no less sexy Grace Slick of Jefferson Airship and Jefferson Starship.

But the Bulgari Serpenti watch, probably one of the most beautiful of all ladies' watches, is probably better known for its association with supreme sex siren Elizabeth Taylor, who was famously photographed wearing a jewelled version of the timepiece while taking a break from the filming of Cleopatra back in the early 1960s.

The juxtaposition of Egyptian monarch and gold serpent was an appropriate one. Following the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb in 1922, Bulgari was among the first to introduce themes from the rediscovered treasures into its jewellery, the coiled serpent bracelet among them.

In the late 1940s, designers at Bulgari took the next step of inserting a watch into the snake’s mouth, and created an iconic piece of jewellery which has evolved and appeared in new guises ever since.

Here's the official Calvin Harris/Florence and the Machine video of Spectrum...

Omega launches special edition Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M watch for James Bond Skyfall

Daniel Craig’s James Bond stuck to an Omega wristwatch for the Skyfall movie, and the watch manufacturer duly rose to the occasion with a new commemorative timepiece.

There is only one commemorative watch being produced for the 23rd Bond movie, making it just that much more valuable and desirable. It is based on the black steel-on-steel 42 mm Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M that Bond wears in the film with, as Q would say, “modifications”.

Now pay attention please: this Omega Seamaster is powered by OMEGA's new Co-Axial calibre 8507. The movement is visible through a transparent sapphire crystal ‘porthole’ set into the brushed screw-in caseback. On the self-winding rotor, etched in black, are the words ‘SKYFALL 007’.

On the dial, at the 7 o’clock position, is the familiar 007 and gun logo and the agent’s number can also be found on the bracelet clasp. Just 5,007 of this unique Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M SKYFALL will be produced.

Like every Omega 007 Limited Edition timepiece, this wristwatch embodies the rugged, classy and stylish characteristics that James Bond shares with OMEGA.

Find out more about the Omega, James Bond, Skyfall connection and the special editions worn by successive Bonds on the Omega website.

More news: the original of the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M that Bond wears in the film sold at auction last month for a stunning US$250,000, with the money going to the ORBIS charity.

Skyfall Bond Girl Bérénice Marlohe now an Omega brand ambassador

Sexy new Bond girl Bérénice Marlohe has been added to luxury watchmaker Omega’s roster of brand ambassadors.

Marlohe plays Severine in Skyfall, the James Bond film to be released in November. It will mark her English-language acting debut for Ms Marlohe whose previous film roles have been in her native French.

The appointment was announced by Omega after the Paris-born actress opened the brand’s new boutique in Venice.

As an Omega ambassador, Bérénice is in good company. Fellow brand ambassadors include Bond actor Daniel Craig and James Bond himself.

Describing her role of Séverine, Bérénice says that she was described by the writers and director as glamorous and enigmatic. “For me,” she says, “enigmatic is very important because I wanted to create a character who couldn’t be stereotyped. It should not be obvious immediately what kind of person she is.”

Men in Black 3 opt for Hamilton Ventura

Will Smith as Agent J handed in his Breitling Chronograph and put on a Hamilton Ventura wristwatch when he joined the Men in Black back in 1997. Fifteen years on, he’s still wearing the brand for Men in Black 3 as he saves the world from time travelling aliens.

As Agent J goes back in time, different versions of the Hamilton Ventura help evoke different eras as all MIB agents wear the unique timepiece.

The company’s own marketing features two contrasting Venura models: the Hamilton Ventura XXL, appropriately styled with a black rubber strap and sleek black dial, and the elegant Hamilton Ventura Medium, favored by the Men in Black supporting agents, which complements a black dial with a classically elegant stainless steel case.

And here's the official trailer. Watch out for brief glimpses of watches on the wrists of Agent J and Agent K...

Voice judge Jessie J wears Swatch Rebel watches

Jessie J wears Swatch New Gent Rebel watches in the official music video for her 2011 hit Who’s Laughing Now. The most prominent of these is the Swatch Gents Brown Rebel Watch SUOC700 – though actually it looks black with pink detailing – as well as versions in purple, pumpkin and pink.

The singer and now star of BBC television’s The Voice UK is apparently being touted as a possible future judge for the US version of X Factor after impressing Simon Cowell. But for now she is generating headlines after a spat with fellow Voice judge

As Swatch put it at the time of her Who’s Laughing Now video in 2011:
Since bursting onto the international pop scene in late 2010, with her debut single, Do It Like A Dude, Essex-born singer-songwriter Jessie J has rapidly proved herself to be a genuine 21st century musical sensation. Talented, feisty and fun, she has since notched five million sales for her succession of single releases globally, as well as 1.1 million sales for her debut album,Who You Are. The single Price Tag hit the number one spot in nineteen countries. All of this is even more impressive when you consider that she is still only 23 years old!

Jessie is not only known for her music, though. Her own distinctive sense of style - topped off with that trademark glossy black bob hairstyle - has made her a much-copied icon among her fans around the world. Proving she is totally fearless when it comes to fashion, Jessie recently transformed the colour of her hair to a vibrant shade of purple, showing she is more than willing to experiment with her looks!

She now further demonstrates what great taste she has, by wearing the Swatch New Gent collection in the video for her eagerly anticipated new single, Who’s Laughing Now. The video had 1 million views on Youtube in one day!  The single is the fourth track to be released from Jessie’s debut album, Who You Are, and looks set to match the massive success of her previous releases. With a Swatch worn proudly on her wrist, Jessie J makes it clear - through her music and her image - that she is having the time of her life right now!

Buzz Aldrin's Omega: first watch on the moon

What was the first match to be worn on the surface of the moon? The Omega Speedmaster worn by Buzz Aldrin, who followed Apollo 11 commander Neil Armstrong down the ladder while wearing the only watch to be approved by NASA for extra-vehicular activity (or EVA).

More than 40 years on, Aldrin still wears an Omega Speedmaster Professional 3570.50.00. Today’s model features a steel case, black dial and 42mm diameter case, along with a tachymeter. The watch is manually wound.

You can read why NASA (and later the Russian space programme) opted for the Speedmaster here on the Omega website.

But why was the first watch on the moon worn by the second man to walk there, and not by mission commander Neil Armstrong? Well, Armstrong opted to leave his own Omega Speedmaster inside the lunar module as the module’s clock had malfunctioned.

Sadly, Aldrin’s speedmaster went missing while being shipped to the Smithsonian Institute, but wouldn’t that one be worth a fortune if you could find it.

The photo above of Buzz Aldrin was taken aboard Apollo 11 by Neil Armstrong and shows him wearing the famous watch. It comes courtesy of NASA.
