Sachin Tendulkar, Michael Schumacher go for Audemars Piguet luxury

Sachin Tendulkar visits Audemars Piguet's workshops
Swiss-based luxury watchmakers Audemars Piguet manufacture some of the world’s most expensive timepieces. Bloomberg once reported on a Jules Audemars Grande Complication model priced at a cool US$780,600.

And the firm has a stable of sporting ambassadors of equal class, among them seven-times champion Formula One racing driver MichaelSchumacher and world-renowned former Indian cricket captain Sachin Tendulkar.

Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsmen to score 100 hundreds at international level when he scored his 100th century in March 2012. He is the most successful cricketer in history, and was part of the winning Indian team in the 2011 world cup.

After visiting the company’s headquarters, Sachin Tendulkar recalled: “I always enjoy spending time in the workshops listening to the watchmakers talk about how they make the different parts of the watch I am wearing. They are all incredibly passionate about their profession and that is what I can associate with.

“The part of the visit that really got my heart pumping was when I was given a watch movement to assemble. Watchmaking is a highly skilled craft and I feel privileged to have been able to be part of it even more so this year that Audemars Piguet celebrates 40 years since the birth of its iconic model. I feel immensely proud and honoured that one of the unique pieces displayed in the Royal Oak 40 years exhibition is the limited edition bearing my name.”

Established in 1875 and still based in Le Brassus, a village in the Vallée de Joux in the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland, Audemars Piguet Audemars Piguet revolutionised the luxury watch market in the 1970s with its Royal Oak, a flagship steel piece designed by Gérald Genta.

The company was formed when Jules Louis Audemars joined forces with Edward Auguste Piguet to develop and craft watches equipped with complex mechanisms. They shared a passion for watchmaking and a mastery of the art of precision that still characterises the company in the 21st century.

Today, Audemars Piguet is still the oldest fine watch-making manufacturer never to have left the hands of its founding families. This gives the company an independent streak that allows it to go its own way and follow its own unique vision.

Its range of watches includes five collections: Royal Oak, Royal Oak Offshore, Millenary, Jules Audemar, Tradition and the fob watch Classique.
